How does it work?

Every week (for two or four weeks), you will receive an online study plan with three parts: preparation, guided film-watching, and follow-up exercises.

Preparation:

Understanding an audio/video is more successful if you have some background knowledge about the topic or expectations about what you will hear about. For this reason, you will be asked questions about the topic in the preparation phase. You can take notes of your ideas. These questions aim at building realistic expectations about the topic, which will help you understand the language. The preparation continues with some vocabulary exercises to brush up on your vocabulary or introduce you to new ones. Finally, you can have a go at some grammar revision tasks with explanation, examples and interactive tasks. Every exercise is corrected automatically.

Film-watching:

After some preparation tasks, you will be taken to the film-watching part. It’s not a problem if you have already seen the film – in your mother tongue. Our aim is to learn vocabulary and actively use them, so repeating it in English might even bring positive results in matching English words to your native language, recalling them faster and then remembering them.

Decide if you want to watch the film while completing the interactive worksheet (you can watch the film on your TV and complete the form on your laptop, tablet or mobile phone) or you want to print the worksheet. In this latter case, you will need to manually correct your answers by comparing your answers to the answer key.

Before watching the film, you will need to read the questions, you can also mark some of the answers you think you know the answer to. Every film is divided up into parts, at the top of each section you can find the minute and end scene of that section. This way, you don’t need to remember many questions at one time. Feel free to stop or repeat any part. In order to take maximum advantage of the questions, you will be asked to watch the films in English. You can use English subtitles, however, mind that this turns the activities into reading training (and no more listening). ELT-Tutor’s suggestion is to watch the films first in English without subtitles, answer the questions and then repeat it in English with English subtitles in order to check your answers. After careful double-checking, you can submit the interactive worksheet and see the instant feedback. In case you use the printable worksheet, you can access the answer key and check your answers manually.
You can always re-watch the film with the correct answers and check your understanding again.

Follow-up exercises:

Finally, you will find an optional written task about the topics(s) of the film. Here you can express your ideas in an essay, composition or email. This assignment will be corrected manually and you will receive feedback on it with targeted suggestions for your further studies. This written task aims at activating new vocabulary items, so make sure you use words you have learnt during the course. You need to complete this writing task before you book your conversation lesson.

Conversation lesson:

You can book a 45-minute conversation lesson after every two weeks, this means, after WEEK #2 and – if you signed up for 4+2 More Films & More Fun – also after WEEK #4. You can book this lesson within 2 or 4 weeks from the end of your course, so you have plenty of time to do it.

In this online, teacher-led lesson, you will discuss the topics from the films, exchange ideas and activate vocabulary.

Important:

– During the whole length of the course you can contact ELT-Tutor to ask for help about the course content, vocabulary items or grammar structures.

– Level of English: Next to each course you will see a minimum CEFR level of English you need to be able to follow the course. Remember, your success in listening and speaking about any topic depends significantly on your interest and background knowledge. So, if you like the films and find the topics interesting, you will benefit from the exercises even at a lower level.
